FAQ's
What is the RX2 designed to be used for?
The RX2 is a robust, lightweight therapy hoof boot. The Rx2 provides comfort and support for stabling on hard ground, trailering, laminitis, thin soles, founder, and other chronic lameness. The Rx2 has an integrated midsole, keeping the hoof close to the ground. The close-fitting, padded upper supports the pastern area while minimizing dirt and debris from entering the boot.
Can I turn my horse out in the RX2?
The RX2 is suitable for stable, yard, traveling, and turnout in a confined area. It is not designed for use during full turnout or muddy conditions etc, the Easyboot Sneaker is better suited to that purpose.
Can I use the RX2 over metal shoes?
No, it is not recommended to use this hoof boot on shod hooves as it will wear the boots much faster.
How can I modify the RX2?
The Rx2 is a great therapy option for horses who need some modifications as the rubber bottom is shapable. The rockered bottom offers built in mechanics like a roller. You can leave the bottom as-is for more support, or snip the edges of the tread to create more of a roller effect. Please consult with your vet or farrier before modifying the boot to ensure the adjustments are right for your horse.
Can I add a comfort pad to the boot?
The RX2 has an integrated pad in the midsole, so often times, no additional pad is needed. The integrated RE pad is a blend of rubber and EVA which increases the durability of the padding. If desired, you can add a comfort pad to the boot as well.
How soft is the padding in the boot?
The RX2 midsole is approximately 45% more firm than the Cloud insert pad on the Shore A Hardness scale.
Does the RX2 work for Minis and ponies?
Sizes run as small as 70mm wide, so it is a good option for many minis and smaller hooves. Take a look at the size chart to be sure.
How does the RX2 sizing run?
The Rx2 fits true to size, it does not tend to run snug. We are always happy to assist with sizing if you are unsure.
Will the RX2 rub?
If sized properly and a good fit, the RX2 upper is a soft padded material allowing a secure fit around the pastern without friction. Properly used and fitted, the RX2 is the least likely of any boot we know of to cause rubbing.
Will dirt, debris, or shavings get inside the boot?
Due to the close fitting nature of the boot, it is highly unlikey that debris will get inside the boot (but we still recommend checking at least daily as with any boot), and certainly the least likely of any boot that we know. It should be noted that the boot is not waterproof above the sole, so although the boot will do an excellent job of helping to keep the hoof clean and protected, it will not keep the hoof dry if used in very wet conditions or wet mud.
How is the RX2 different from the Cloud?
A: Both the RX2 and Cloud are great therapy boot options. If you are trying to decide between boots, here are some things to consider:
When choosing and using this hoof boot:
This boot is designed for use in the stable/yard/small area such as a round pen, and is not made for ridden work or turnout etc. They should ideally be sized and fitted within 7 days of a trim suitable for a working barefoot horse (or at a time when there is nothing at all to trim, and there is still a good rolled edge). If you need to fit the boots between trims, it is important to at least ensure there is a good rolled edge on the hooves to prevent damage to the inside of the boots/pads. The size charts are a good guide to sizing, but this cannot take in to account of the angle of the hoof, heel height and other features of the hooves which will ultimately also effect the fit of the boots.
