The Collegiate Lip Strap is a fine rolled leather lip strap made from the finest quality European leather, complimented by highly polished stainless steel fittings and crafted with real attention to detail, designed for use with pelham bits.

Lip straps were first used to prevent the curb chain from becoming lost, traditionally bits did not have a pinched curb hook to hold one side in place. With modern bitting, a double link curb chain is now sold with pelham bits as standard, and the curb hook is pinched on one side to prevent loss.

Lip straps do also serve to keep the curb chain flat and in the correct position, and as such are considered essential for showing.
